Ever since we met, ausTXhiker and I had planned to travel to Asia, most importantly to Hong Kong together. This summer (2004), with some good fares for both of us and the clever use of award tickets, this plan became reality. Flying in from opposite sides of the world, ausTXhiker and I were to meet in Bangkok for a few days before embarking on our first flight together to Hong Kong, home of the infamous hosts of the HK Do, GK and SP!, who had volunteered to be our local guide. I would then continue on my own to Tokyo to meet mjm there before returning to Europe “the long way” via Hong Kong, Singapore and again Bangkok.

The combination of paid and award tickets that I used on this trip was very affordable and in the end earned me more miles than it cost me. It involved however flying to Athens to start the trip there, and to do it again at the end of the trip. Fortunately, “stopovers” in my hometown of Zurich were permitted on both ways.
